The 25th Vibe for Philo 4th January 2011.

Next January'be theme is Black Rose - and sees the Vibe renew its association with s  years Vithe artist Jim Fitzpatrick who executed the classic sleeve for the album of that name. Jim has read Philo's poetry at several Vibes as well as regularly providing us with some classic original Lizzy artwork for Vibe visuals. This year he has ...kindly consented to give us an alternative take on The Black Rose artwork in the form of a previously unpublished poster design for the album.

The venue for the 25th Vibe will see a return to the 1500 capacity Vicar Street. Due to the unprecedented number of enquiries from overseas visitors for tickets we've taken the unusual step of making tickets available online while were still in the process of finalising the details of the show. As we are approaching Philo's birthday it seemed appropriate to tie in with the day and tickets will be available from tickets.ie and Ticketmaster.ie from 9.00am GMT on 20th August.

The exciting news is that Brian "Robbo" Robertson will headline the 2011 show with his new band featuring Ian Haugland (Europe), Leif Sundin (Michael Shenker Group), Nalle Pahlsson (Treat), and Liny Wood.

Robbo has a long association with the Vibe having played the 5th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 20th Vibes. His new album "Di...amonds and Dirt" features 4 Lizzy era tracks and Robbo will be taking time out from promoting it to play in Dublin on the 4th. He stated "obviously the 4th January is an emotional time for me and there's no better way to commemorate it than being in Dublin with all those Lizzy supporters who love Phil so much, many of them weren't even born when he died. It's amazing."

Jan Schelhaas played organ on "Vagabonds of the Western World" Sometime between then and Scott & Brian's time Philip asked Jan round to his flat in West Hampstead for a jam and a 'cup of tea'.

The only thing portable enough for Jan to carry was a clavinet D6.

They recorded a couple of tunes (a bluesy version of Nightlife and an early version of 'home boys home' on his Revox  and bouncing vocals and overdubs as they went.

Jan recently found an old cassette he’d made of their efforts at the time and had a go at cleaning it up a bit.

Needless to say its very rough however many thanks Jan.

Take a listen:

NIGHTLIFE

HOME BOYS HOME **

**'Home Boys Home' is usually attributed to The Dubliners and Luke Kelly (though not exclusively) who sang it much faster although many folk acts also sang it slower

Philip used part of the melody and adapted it in his song 'Philomena'

Cast your minds back to the 10th Anniversary in 1996 at the Point (now the 02)
Barry James and Toss the Feathers bashed out a few tunes while respected journalist Eamon Carr of Horslips fame tapped away on an old typewriter. When the band had finished, Eamon read what he had written and the following is a transcript of that poem.
Please remember that it is copyrighted and is being reproduced here with Eamon's full permission.

LINES FOR A COMRADE FALLEN AT THE FRONT

(For Philip - Jan 4th 1996)

Amid the tumult, amid the din,
Always the words,
What key are we in?
While others played their cards close to their chests,
Tried to keep the answers hidden, locked away,
You were always on for cracking the combination,
Bursting into that dispensary of dreams.

What key?

The question I first heard you ask
The night we jammed with Ditch down the Go-Go.
Willie had been delivering coal that afternoon
And he and the others worked up a sweat
While you and I
Crouched in the cloakroom,
Unseen,
Ready to be called,
Waiting to be delivered.

And what was the key?

I envy those who know for sure.
I pray for those of us for whom
Time runs out.
