Commemorative Stamp
On 17th October 2002. An Post (Irish Postal Service) issues a series of stamps honouring four legends of Irish rock music. The emergence of the beat movement in the early sixties energised a stagnant Irish music scene, dominated by showbands.

In 1973, Thin Lizzy, lead by charismatic front man, Philip Parris Lynott, made their international breakthrough with a rock version of 'Whiskey In The Jar'. Throughout the thirteen year career with the band, Lynott's unique talent, poetic lyrics and dynamic stage presence epitomised the rock star phenomenon.

The stamps, (which also featured U2, Rory Gallagher and Van Morrisson) which are based on contemporary photographs, and the First Day Cover were designed by d5 Design
